Not getting where you want to

Are you learning Latin but feel lost? overwhelmed? stuck? confused? anxious? frustrated?

The challenges

The rarest experience

Do you want the rare experience of reading a Latin text written by someone who lived hundreds or even thousands of years ago and hearing the words in the same language with no intermediary?

There is nothing more exciting and rewarding than this time travel.

Yet, most people fail to reach reading fluency in Latin. Why? Because of 2 common challenges.

Overwhelm & confusion

You don’t know where to start

If you’ve browsed various forums, you’ve likely run into contradictory advice: Someone says “Use this book!” while another replies “No, that one’s too slow—this is better!” Soon, you find yourself drowning in links, books, and confusion.

The toughest part of learning Latin isn’t the language—it’s figuring out where to start.

feeling stuck

You aren’t making progress

Even if you’ve learned a bit, you might feel stuck or unsure about your next step. Watching others progress can spark doubts: ‘Am I too old? Too dumb? Too slow?’

No! You can learn Latin—and you can learn it well.

The magic of knowing Latin

Imagine traveling through the centuries

Learning Latin opens a gateway through time—from the bustling streets of ancient Rome to the monastic libraries of the Middle Ages. March with Caesar in Gaul, witness the triumph of Christianity, and see Roman civilization merge with Germanic peoples. In the High Middle Ages, step into the world of medieval universities and scholastic thought.

Then follow Latin into its Neo-Latin renaissance, where it becomes the voice of pioneering philosophers and groundbreaking thinkers. Latin allows us to hear the voices of ancient poets, medieval chroniclers, and early scientists speak directly to us today.

  • Roman History: Caesar’s Commentarii de Bello Gallico, Livy’s Ab Urbe Condita, Tacitus’s Annales
  • The Vulgate Bible: Saint Jerome’s Latin translation that shaped Christian tradition
  • Medieval Chronicles & Epic Romances
  • Philosophical Works
  • Scientific Texts

Have you tried

without making progress?

Apps with random sentences?

You may have tried popular language learning apps that weren’t designed for Latin, only to find yourself memorizing and translating random phrases without truly reading.

Maybe you’re using flashcards—which can be a helpful supplement—but they’re no substitute for reading Latin in its proper context. True language acquisition comes from engaging with the text in its natural setting, not from isolated vocabulary drills.

Focus on Grammar & Translation?

Maybe you’re struggling through a difficult text like Caesar or a grammar-translation textbook, laboriously deciphering sentences while drilling specific grammar rules.

This method teaches you about Latin’s structure, but it doesn’t prepare you for fluent reading of Latin texts. Only when you’ve read a lot, grammar becomes useful.

Groups & Social media?

Social media and online groups can offer helpful Latin-learning tips, but they lack a coherent, structured approach.

Especially as a beginner faced with scattered videos, posts, and discussions, it’s difficult to assess their quality or figure out how to piece them together into an effective learning path.

Random online Latin courses?

While online Latin courses can be valuable and a good addition, their fixed duration often limits your progress. Just as mastering the piano requires practice beyond lessons, becoming fluent in Latin demands consistent reading and listening on your own time.

Real proficiency comes from regular, independent engagement with the language, not just from structured class sessions.

These various approaches—particularly grammar study—may serve a purpose, but the key to mastering Latin lies in reading and listening a lot.

You’ve likely experimented with scattered resources that are either unstructured, unreliable, not designed specifically for Latin, or disconnected from the meaningful context of authentic texts and stories.

Quality standards for Legentibus

At Legentibus, we believe that trust in your learning materials is essential for real progress. When you can’t rely on the content you study, it becomes much harder for your brain to absorb new information.

Pillars of our quality policy

  • Authentic Latin: We meticulously ensure that all original texts (all texts written and published by Legentibus) align with classical Latin usage in vocabulary, syntax, and word order.
  • Expert Review: Every piece of content is created and rigorously checked by our team of scholars and expert Latinists with decades of experience.
  • Respect for Rights: We respect copyrights, properly license the works we use, and fairly compensate authors.
  • No AI-Generated Latin: We never use artificial intelligence to create Latin texts, keeping our materials authentic, human-crafted, and trustworthy.
